Visiting Malta can be such a rewarding experience. If you want to come here to enjoy the beaches, appreciate the culture, and have an entirely different adventure, proper planning is the key. Listed below are the most common accommodation choices in the archipelago, so you can plan your stay well and manage your budget properly at the same time.

1. Hotels
Hotels are found all over the world, including Malta of course. Hotels are usually found near the beaches and most of them are quite easy to book over the internet. The nicest luxury hotels are found in the Golden Bay, Paradise Bay, and other popular beach destinations.

2. Hostels
Hostels are budget accommodations, and not so hard to find in Malta. There is a high concentration of hostels in Paceville, St. Julian’s, and Sliema. Some of them can even provide airport pickup services for a traveller’s convenience. It is also possible to book some of Malta’s best hostels over the internet.

3. Villas
Another popular accommodation choice for long-term travellers to Malta is renting a villa. These places will allow you to enjoy a relaxing and a more peaceful holiday experience. Private villas are found in areas such as Manikata, Santa Maria Estate, Bidnija, Mdina, Rabat, Zurrieq, St. Julians, and Zejtun, among others.

4. Farmhouses
If you would like to experience more of Malta’s countryside, try living in a farmhouse for a week or more. This type of accommodation is very popular in Gozo. It is recommended for travellers who want a laid back fun island experience in a quieter and greener backdrop.

5. Short Let Apartments
If villas and farmhouses aren’t your thing, try the maisonettes, penthouses, and apartments in Malta instead. Many of them open their doors during the holiday season. Depending on the location, you may find a place with complete facilities, fully furnished, and even a swimming pool.

  1. I just returned from a week’s trip to Malta, and can recommend the Boho Hostel in Saint Julien’s. They picked me up from the airport for a few euros and the room price includes breakfast, and all modern services. The hostel has a lovely garden, where you can relax in a hammock and enjoy their barbeque. As for the price, I paid just over 100 euros for the whole week, the beds are in a 6-person dorm, separate for men and women.

  2. There is another really attractive alternative to within the above-mentioned accommodation, namely farmhouses! I tried it in Gozo and was really thrilled. You get to live exactly like locals, but still get pampered with the unbeatable local cuisine or cook for yourself. There are several sites that offer this kind of accommodation, and their prices are quite attractive, so check it out!

  3. Can anyone recommend farmhouse in a really attractive surroundings, say in Gozo? I want to get away from all the hazzle of average tourist locations and explore the nature around. Ideal place would thus be close to a forest or mountain that has great hiking paths. Any suggestions highly appreciated! I have already been to Valletta and want to experience the other side of Malta.

  4. Although farmhouses sound like a nice option, I would like even better finding accommodation in a Maltese home in a town, in family’s couch. Is that a possibility in Malta? I have tried couch surfing with great success in Paris, and would even be willing to pay the host family a little something for opening their home for me to sleep in.

  5. Hotel Victoria is a great choice for staying in Gozo. It is located almost at the center of the capital Victoria and all the town’s attractions, best shopping places and restaurants/ bars are within a short walking distance.Since it is located quite far from the sea, the hotel has its own pool. I can also recommend its own restaurant, which has a nice menu. The hotel is brand new, and has excellent views to a valley below and to the sea.
